Fly-posting costs car dealership £665
A PETERBOROUGH car dealership has been fined £450 and ordered to pay £200 costs after being convicted of fly-posting on three occasions in 2010.
Peterborough City Council successfully prosecuted Motorpoint under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 for fly-posting. Enforcement officers seized 23 signs at locations including Fulbridge Road; Boongate; Edgerley Drain Road; Parnwell Way and Whittlesey Road, Stanground, in August and September 2010.
Motorpoint did not attend court but pleaded guilty by post. The company was fined £450, ordered to pay £200 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge by Peterborough Magistrates Court on March 1, 2011.
Councillor Peter Hiller, the city council’s cabinet member for housing, neighbourhoods and planning, said: “This case should act as a warning to others who may have used, or be considering using, this type of illegal advertising in our city.
“Fly-posting makes the city look untidy and signs by the roadside can distract motorists. The council will not hesitate to take action in such cases.”
