Riverford’s new iPhone app makes cooking seasonal food easy

ORGANIC veg box company Riverford, based locally at Sacrewell Farm just outside Peterborough, has launched a free-to-download iPhone app featuring almost 800 searchable recipes. The seasonal organic produce that Riverford’s customers receive in their veg boxes has inspired the featured recipes.

Jon Day, who helps to run Riverford’s farm at Sacrewell, said: “The idea is to help people make the best use of the veg available at any given time of the year – including some of the more unusual varieties. The app is designed to identify which types of veg go best together. You tell the app which items are in your fridge, for example you might have leeks and broad beans, or butternut squash and tomatoes. When you click ‘results’ you’ll be taken through to a list of recipes that match the vegetables you have. It’s really good fun to use, and makes cooking from scratch much easier, particularly if you’ve got a few items that really need using up.”

It is also possible to search or scroll through all the recipes searching by ingredient, cuisine, season or eating occasion. You can store recipes for next time by adding them to your favourites. Plus, the app helps you identify different varieties of veg and offers hints and tips on storage and preparation.

You can download the app now by searching for ‘Riverford’ on the app store, or find out more by visiting www.riverford.co.uk/sacrewell
