CITYFIBRE, the company behind Peterborough’s new pure fibre network, and local service provider Businesscoms have today launched a competition for city-based charities to win free gigabit speed internet over the ‘Peterborough CORE’ network.
The public are invited to nominate their favourite Peterborough charities and not for profit organisations to win free connection to the Peterborough CORE and a year’s free phone service (VOIP) from Businesscoms. The winning charities will be granted free access to Gigabit speed internet services (1000Mpbs) – 100 times faster than standard broadband.
The competition, which launched at the annual Rawlinson’s Charity Conference at the KingsGate Conference centre, will deliver significant cost savings and an increase in efficiency for these charities. They will have access to ultra-fast upload and download speeds, state-of-the-art internet phones to replace costly landlines, and will no longer experience peak-time slowdowns when multiple users are online.
Andy Starnes, CityFibre’s city development manager, said, “Since announcing our investment to build the Peterborough CORE, we’ve had fantastic support from local businesses with more than 500 registrations of interest already received. We want to give back to the local community and have launched this competition to ensure that the benefits of Gigabit speed connectivity can be experienced by the city’s charitable organisations too.”
Rob Baldacci, director of Businesscoms, said, “Charitable organisations are increasingly using online channels to engage their audience and free Gigabit speed services over the Peterborough CORE will remove barriers in connectivity and help them move their organisations forward. We’re pleased to be partnering with CityFibre to launch this competition and would urge as many charities as possible to enter.”
To enter the competition, charities must first be nominated by a third party and then should tweet the reason why they want to receive free gigabit speed connectivity to the @PboroCORE Twitter handle using the competition hashtag #GigUpPboro. The competition runs until midday on 7th July. Five Peterborough charities or not for profit organisations have the chance to win.
