The lights are still on…

But there’s nobody home, writes editor Martyn Moore.

PETERBOROUGHbusiness.co.uk was once a part of my big plan for global media domination. Think Newscorp, Sky, Waystar, Johnston Press.

I wrote about dozens of Peterborough-based companies and offered them the chance to support the site financially with advertising and sponsorship. At its peak it was drawing 1,000 page views a day.

It didn’t work. Nobody was interested in ads or sponsorship but they were interested in the other services I provided. I received lots of enquiries about my writing and photography and video services, so I created Videopeterborough.co.uk

Video production became my main activity from about 2010 and I haven’t looked back. These days I make short films around the UK, and sometimes abroad. I’ve won awards for them and everything. I even wrote a book explaining that anyone can become a film-maker and you can buy that book here: You Can Be a Film-maker. If it saves you money, I don’t think anyone can become a film-maker, but if I can, a heck of a lot of you can. This book tells you how. It’s also got an entire chapter devoted to commissioning a video from a production company.

Unfortunately, this has left Peterboroughbusiness.co.uk withering on the vine, so to speak. My former accountant was interested in buying the domain name and resurrecting it but he didn’t like the price I was asking for it. It’s all about the money with accountants, isn’t it?
