Former Peterborough businessman launches into print with golfing book

HAVING sold a Peterborough-based company that he spent more than 20 years building up, former businessman Freddie Mitman (84) is not retiring – he is launching a new career as a golfing author.

His first book, Golf – The Rhyme and Reason, looks light-heartedly at golf and golfers. It includes stories, verses and cartoons illustrating many aspects of the game. Most golfers will be able to recognise, relive and smile at many of their own golfing experiences.

It was only a year ago that Freddie sold the highly successful Drain Doctor business that he and his wife Jan built from scratch to become the UK’s largest combined plumbing and drainage business. Now Freddie is able to indulge his passion for golf, not just playing it but writing about it.

He said: “Whenever I was able to get away from business I enjoyed playing golf. I’ve had some great rounds and some dreadful ones – and many funny experiences associated with the game.

“I hope the book will be picked up by golfers – but also by their friends and families who might learn a little about what enthuses golfers or maybe buy it as a present for the golfers in the family.”

The book is available to buy online at www.tiny.cc/mitman for just £7.39 plus postage for the paperback version. A hardback version is also available.

Freddie’s endeavours seem to be part of a growing trend. Peterborough-based film-maker Martyn Moore has just published an e-book called You can be a film-maker: getting paid to shoot great video. Martyn’s book is available for download from all the main e-book providers: http://www.beafilmmaker.co.uk/buy-the-book.html
