Local employer donates furniture and over £6.5k to local charity, Little Miracles Peterborough

MAJOR local employer BGL Group has donated over £6.5k and numerous items of furniture to the Little Miracles Support Centre and Activity Group. The donation from BGL forms part of the Group’s pledge to donate one million pounds to community, charity and environmental causes by June 2012.

Little Miracles is a parent-led support group for families that have children with disabilities and additional needs. Currently attended by more than 300 families with disabled children, the playgroup was co-founded in 2010 by two local Mums, Michelle King and Tessa Capon, who both have children with disabilities. At the centre, parents and families can receive emotional support and counselling as well as sound financial advice from experts regarding benefits and grants they may be entitled to.

The £6.5k donation from the BGL Group covers the cost of updating the existing fire safety equipment and new LED lighting, for children with light sensitivities. The Group also donated a number of pieces of furniture and storage equipment including a sofa, lockable filing cabinets and storage units.

Michelle King, co-founder of Little Miracles, said: “I am overwhelmed by BGL’s support of the Little Miracles charity. Not only has the Group funded the upgrade of our fire safety equipment, making it possible for us to open, they have also donated much needed furniture and storage equipment. Many of the families who attend our group don’t have much money and can’t afford outside help or assistance. All of the services provided at the playgroup are free of charge, making it the only means of support some of our families receive.”

Andrew Strand, of the BGL Group central community team, said: “At BGL we are always looking for ways we can support our communities and we are delighted that we’ve been able to support Little Miracles. Michelle and the team of volunteers do a fantastic job of providing encouragement and assistance to so many families in Peterborough and the surrounding areas – they even have families visit from as far as Skegness and Leicester.”
