New certification for gas fitters

FROM April 1 all gas engineers must be registered with the new Gas Safe Register.

The Corgi certificate, something UK customers have come to see as a “certificate of approval” for a gas installer has been replaced by gas certificates issued and monitored by the Capita Company, which will take over as the standards monitor for the office of the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). This is what the new logo will look like (above).

The impact on customers is expected to be minimal. Eileen Le Voi, managing director of the Peterborough-based website trustourtrades.com said: “The Corgi logo has been synonymous with gas installers for over 17 years and the change of companies will help address the problem of “cowboys” and illegal gas workers as they will now have no choice but to register with the new scheme.”
