With a growth rate of 1.62 per cent, Peterborough has been dubbed the fastest growing city in the country, and between 2010-2011 it was reported that more than 3000 migrants moved to the city.

While many of Peterborough’s immigrants have given their birth country as one of the newest European Union access states – Lithuania or Poland – there is still concern about the number of illegal immigrant that are employed in Peterborough.

The consequences make dire reading for both employees and their employers when it comes to illegal immigrants. In accordance with section 15 of the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act; employees will be arrested before being detained and deported while employers will be fined up to £20,000 per illegal worker and issued with a notice of liability.
