MAJOR local employer, the BGL Group, has donated £3,000 to Peterborough children’s charity, The Rudolf Fund. Every December the Charity takes children who have a disability or illness, undergone major surgery or hospital treatment, have suffered a major trauma or are a recognised carer for a disabled parent or sibling, to Disneyland Paris.
Since the charity launched in 1997, a total of 400 children have benefitted from the Rudolf Fund, which relies on donations from the local community and businesses. The money donated by BGL Group will help pay for 10 children, from across the Peterborough area, to take part in the trip later this year.
John Fox, from The Rudolf Fund, said: “During times of financial restraint charities can take a hit as people do not have as much disposable income. We have struggled for funding in recent months so receiving donations and support from local businesses is both valued and greatly appreciated. The cost to cover a child and their carer is £600 so the generous donation from the BGL Group really will provide an unforgettable adventure for the children.”
BGL Group chief executive, Peter Winslow, added: “The Rudolf Fund is one of Peterborough’s most heart-warming charities. Its committee members are passionate about providing special children and young carers with a wonderful and unique opportunity, creating memories of a life time! The BGL Group is committed to supporting local charities and we have set ourselves a target to raise £1m (one million pounds) for good causes, like the Rudolf fund, by 2012.”
