VISITORS to the Peterborough Evening Telegraph‘s website have posted mixed reactions to the council’s promise to “do everything we can to try and convince [Primark] to come to Peterborough”.
Editor of PeterboroughBusiness.co.uk, Martyn Moore, has commented on the ET‘s story: “The council’s ambition to encourage trade and see empty premises occupied is laudable. This will provide employment and boost optimism – and god knows we need plenty of both.
“Whether or not Primark is the answer, I don’t know. The seduction of the big brand seems a little desperate and slightly sad. ‘We are going to do everything we can…’ is all well and good, as long as the same sentiment is applied to existing and locally-based businesses that may be struggling and need more council help.”
