PETERBOROUGH has been invited to exhibit at leading business innovation event Innovate UK in London between 11-13 March 2013.
Run by the Technology Strategy Board and UK Trade & Investment, the event aims to accelerate UK economic growth by stimulating business-led innovation and opening up international trade opportunities.
The event will bring together over 4,000 people from UK and international business, Government and academia. Peterborough has been selected by the Technology Strategy Board to exhibit at the event as one of the UK’s most innovative cities.
In November 2012, Peterborough was one of only four UK cities to be shortlisted for the Future Cities Demonstrator Competition. The competition and its £24m prize intended to demonstrate how a city of the future might work.
Although Glasgow was announced as the overall winner of the competition, despite Scotland’s referendum on independence due to take place next year, the judging panel was impressed with Peterborough’s bid and the city’s track record for delivering innovative projects, particularly in relation to sustainability and the environment.
Now, Peterborough has been hand-picked to showcase some of its most innovative local businesses and further embed the city’s reputation for environmental business and technological solutions.
Steve Bowyer, head of economic development at Opportunity Peterborough said, “We are really pleased that Peterborough has been invited to exhibit at Innovate UK. It’s a fantastic platform to demonstrate the city’s ambition and commitment to sustainability and innovation. It’s also a good opportunity to highlight innovative businesses already operating in Peterborough and attract others to join them.”
Iain Gray, chief executive of the Technology Strategy Board said, “All our exhibitors are specially selected by the Technology Strategy Board and UKTI to feature at the exhibition and can demonstrate truly innovative products, services or technologies that have been developed here in the UK. We’re very pleased that Peterborough is taking part in the event and believe it is a great representation of the UK’s strength in innovative business.”
